March Favorites: Our Current Obsessions

The third month of 2021 is nearly over, and what a month it was. Balmy days, snowstorms, lots of rain, a few wonderful births, and now a string of surprisingly warm days. We’ll take it! That, plus this wonderful report about vaccines and immunity in pregnant and lactating people, has us feeling gooooooood.

Out of all the content series we share here on the blog, our new monthly Favorites feature might top the list. It’s a chance for our team to swap recommendations as we compile this short list of the things we’re currently loving. If you’re looking to find your new nightly read, a tasty recipe, or a binge-worthy series on Netflix, you’re in the right place. Consider this a recap of everything that made our month brighter.

In the time that has passed since we shared our February Favorites, we’ve added a lot of fresh new content to the blog! We started the month off with co-founder Emily’s Real Postpartum Session, then shared a few Quick Tips for Birth Workers, and followed that up with a full gallery of photos from one of our 2019 births. Then we moved onto some birth ed with our Know Your Evidence: Induction for Big Babies post! We had the honor of sharing one of our birth photography clients’ births so we gave you a peek into A Joyous Midwife-Attended Birth Story. We got real about navigating the first official year as Gather during a pandemic, we shared a collection of homebirth moments, and we outlined where to find donor milk in the Twin Cities. Most recently, we talked about The Tools We Use to Run Our Birth Business. When we weren’t compiling blog posts, we were spending time:

Reading:

Mere recently started reading Deacon King Kong and is riveted. Em’s reading an oldie but a goodie: Garlic and Sapphires (Ruth Reichl), which is so funny and engaging that her whole family would regularly ask for updates on what disguises NYTimes food critic Ruth was wearing in the most recent chapters.

Watching:

Call My Agent! While Mere isn’t learning as much French as she hoped she would, she’s loving this well-acted and witty Netflix series. Emily is watching Michelle Obama’s new kid show, Waffles and Mochi, with her four year old. She says it’s charming and delightful and, if she’s going to be spending her screen time on children’s programming, this is a great option.

Eating:

Mere gave some tortellinis the potsticker treatment with this older recipe from the always-wonderful Smitten Kitchen. Emily celebrated a family homecoming after a long hospital stay with Molly Yeh’s sprinkle cake. Brooke and her husband Joe just got an Ooni pizza oven and are on the search for thee best pizza dough recipe.

Doing:

Brooke has been busy starting seeds for her salsa and flower gardens, as well as learning all things fetal positioning from Ann Gilligan at her most recent knowledge share before releasing the highly anticipated Gilligan’s Guide to help pregnant parents have a smoother birth experience. Emily has been listening to The Office Ladies podcast (we dare you to find a bigger Office fan than Em!). Mere has been hard at work editing images from our latest photography client’s labor and delivery experience.

What about you? What were your March bright spots?

Check back next week for a peek inside our birth bags, a gallery full of lovely images, and Mere’s regular Friday Finds post.
