Our team of birth photographers at Gather Birth has been working with families in the Minneapolis, St. Paul and greater Twin Cities area for almost a decade. We’re very well-versed in how to time our arrival at a birth just right.

This sweet family reached out to give an update, and while all was quiet, some magic words made my ears perk up: “our midwife is staying.” If a midwife is sticking around, that’s a pretty sure sign a baby is on their way.

I made my way over to this family’s home just in time for us all to sit around and chat. And that’s how her labor went for several hours, hanging out and chatting. All until her bag of waters broke, followed by a baby in less than 30 minutes.

My birth photographer instincts are always right. If I would have waited for some big moment, like her water breaking, I would have missed the smooth arrival of their son. As a birth worker, always trust your gut!
