World Breastfeeding Week 2024 | Lactation and Infant Feeding Support with Brittany Geisen, IBCLC of Gather Birth Cooperative

Every beginning of August, we get to hold space for, honor and/or celebrate all the ways breastfeeding/chest feeding/body feeding has impacted families’ lives. No single feeding journey with a child is identical with that of another. I’ve worked with families that feedings have clicked and felt intuitive from the very first latch. I’ve also worked with families that have had obstacle after obstacle in their path and trying to feed their baby with their body is just really hard. Of course there’s experiences of all the in-between the two extremes as well.

I honor and hold space for you, this World Breastfeeding Week if you:

  • Were able to breast/body feed as long as you and your baby wanted to.

  • Exclusively pumped milk to feed your baby.

  • Tried, but never could successfully get your baby to latch.

  • Fed your baby from your breast/chest once, or even a handful of times.

  • Tried to breast/body feed but couldn’t due to baby’s oral ties and dysfunction.

  • Navigated feeding challenges with a premature or sick baby.

  • Never got the chance to feed your baby because they died during/after birth.

  • Made the decision to not directly feed or pump milk due to history of trauma/abuse.

  • Wanted to breast/body feed but couldn’t due to medical reasons.

  • Breastfed/body fed your baby with chronic low milk supply.

  • Breastfed/body fed your baby with challenges of oversupply.

**and all the other ways breast/body feeding has impacted your family’s life.

No matter where you land with how you want and are able to feed your baby, my goal as an IBCLC (lactation consultant) is that you feel informed and supported.
